How to Apply

If you are an international applicant, there are a number of methods of applying to the University.

  1. You may apply directly to the University of Adelaide; or
  2. You may apply through one of our official International Representatives.

Please note: If you are an international student studying any of the following programs you must apply through the South Australian Tertiary Admissions Centre (SATAC) *

  • South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE)
  • ACT Year 12 Certificate
  • NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC)
  • Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE)
  • Queensland Senior Certificate
  • Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE)
  • Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
  • Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) (if completed in Australia)

* SATAC applicants for the Medicine, Dental Surgery and Oral Health programs must also lodge their PQA (Personal Qualities Assessment) registration to the University before 30 June 2008. Registration and other application details are available at http://www.health.adelaide.edu.au/international/

SATAC applicants for the Bachelor of Nursing program must apply through SATAC before 28 September 2008. SATAC applicants for the Bachelor of Nursing program are not required to submit an "Intent to Apply as an International Student" form and are not  required to sit the PQA (Personal Qualities Assessment) and therefore do not need to pay the PQA fee.

You are an international student if you are NOT:

  • an Australian citizen
  • a dual citizen of Australia and any other country
  • an Australian permanent resident
  • a New Zealand citizen.

Most International full fee-paying students need an International Student Visa to study in Australia. For information about International Student Visas please visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website.

Apply directly to the University of Adelaide

You may apply directly if you are applying from within Australia or from overseas. To make a direct application to the University of Adelaide:

  1. Print the International Student Application form. The application form is available on our website or you can find the application form in the International Student Prospectus.
  2. Complete the application form.
  3. Attach original or certified copies of your academic qualifications, transcripts, English language tests results (if required) and any other supporting documents. Please note that a certified English translation is required if originals are not in English.
  4. If required, you will need to forward additional documents if the program you are applying for has special admission requirements (e.g. Music, Medicine and Surgery, Dental Surgery, Nursing and Oral Health programs)
  5. Make your Application Fee Payment. If you are paying by credit card, include your details on the application form, otherwise attach a bank draft of AUD$50. Please note that the application fee is waived for applications submitted through the University's International Representatives. Applicants sponsored by external funding agencies or home governments are exempt from paying the application fee, but must attach a letter from the sponsor confirming support.
  6. Forward the completed application form, application fee and all supporting documents to:

** Please note that if you wish to fax your application or lodge it online you will need to make your application fee payment by credit card and send your original documentation by mail.

Please make sure you send all required documents with your completed application. If you do not send all of the essential documents the University will not be able to process your application.

In some cases, international students may be credited with advanced standing or credit transfer on the basis of work they have already completed at another tertiary institution.

Apply through an International Representative (agent)

You may apply through one of our International Representatives either in Australia or in another country. This is appropriate when:

  • you need advice on choosing a program of study and living in Australia, or
  • you need assistance with completing documentation required by the University or the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship, or
  • you need a reliable, local point of contact for communication with the University.

In some cases, international students may be credited with advanced standing or credit transfer on the basis of work they have already completed at another tertiary institution.
