Health Services For Students With Families

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is compulsory for international students on student visas and their family members who are on 'dependent' visas. For general information on OSHC, including how to renew your cover, claim a refund, and health and medical services in Adelaide, click here .

We recognise that students with children have unique needs, and there is a range of services available in South Australia specifically for families. The International Student Centre has put together a Family Handbook outlining some of these services, and we welcome you to come by and pick up a copy once you are in Adelaide. Please also refer to the information below.

Parent's Helpline
Child and Youth Health Parent's Helpline provides telephone information, counselling and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. You can telephone them on 1 300 364 100 for the cost of a local call, anywhere in South Australia.

The Helpline is available to parents of children/young people from birth to twenty-five who live in South Australia, and provides information about health, nutrition, behaviour, relationships, and more. It also provides information about where callers can get further help. Calls are confidential and you don't have to give your name unless you want to.

Helpline staff have a computer database with up-to-date information based on current research, so they give you the best service when you call. Staff are qualified nurses and community health workers with selected volunteers. All staff receive ongoing training and support.

You can also visit the Child and Youth Health web site which contains lots of helpful information.
