Orientation for New International Students

Student orientation at the University of Adelaide is about making friends, having fun, and finding the information and skills you need to survive and succeed in a new environment.

At the start of each semester, the International Student Centre (ISC) runs an Orientation Program designed to help all new international students make a smooth transition to academic life at the University of Adelaide. In addition to assisting you with enrolling into your academic program we will introduce you to the University, the city of Adelaide and the local community.

Orientation Dates for Semester 1, 2013

International Orientation Week commences on Monday 18th February 2013.

The International Student Centre (ISC) and its Peer Mentors will run a Welcome Centre for new international students from Monday 18 February to Friday 1 March . Don't panic if you cannot make it for the first day as staff will be able to assist you even if you arrive late.

Enrolment Dates

Enrolment Advice sessions for new international students commencing a new program are held during the Orientation Program. Specific enrolment dates and a schedule of advice sessions are available on the Enrolment Dates page.

Program Events and Timetable

The Orientation Program for February will be finalised in late January.

Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre is located in The Hub.  The Welcome Centre is the place where you can:

  • sign up to events
  • meet for the social programs
  • ask any questions
  • meet other students
  • just relax and take in your new surroundings.

The Welcome Centre is open throughout the Orientation Program at the following times:

9:30 am - 3:00 pm

There are always International Student Centre staff and Peer Mentors available to offer guidance and a friendly welcome. There are sofas, publications and light refreshments available throughout the day. So come join us and make yourself at home.

Life In Adelaide

The University's publication for all new international students is called 'Life In Adelaide'.  The publication is an excellent resource that includes a 'Quick Guide' for contact details of the services available to students at the University.  The guide is designed to assist you to become familiar with The University, Academic Expectations, The City of Adelaide and surrounding metropolitan area, and the local culture.  You will receive a copy from the Welcome Centre when you arrive, or you can download a pdf version.
