Peer Mentor Recruitment for 2012
The International Student Centre (ISC) is now recruiting mentors for the February 2012 Peer Mentor Program. The program is designed to assist the ISC staff deliver their Orientation program and activities. Peer Mentors take an active role in facilitating the transition to university for new international students.
What’s in it for you?
The Program aims to give you leadership and general workplace skills. We provide training that focuses on the skills required to gain graduate attributes. We will provide meals on the days you work and a certificates at the completion of the program. We will also host a recognition event at the conclusion of the program where you will meet and receive a certificate from the Pro Vice-Chancellor (International).
You will have to commit to the following:
Be available for training workshops/ camp during the week beginning Monday 6th February 2012.
MUST be available for the whole day (9am – 5 pm) on Friday 10 February, 2012. If you cannot attend this day you cannot be part of the program. This is a compulsory set up and training day at the ‘Welcome Centre’.
You will also need to be available for a minimum of 5 full day shifts during the period of Monday 13 February – Thursday 23 February, 2012.
We have approximately 40 positions available for:
10 undergraduate international students
10 undergraduate domestic/local students
5 postgraduate international students
5 postgraduate domestic/local students
5 domestic students who have been on an exchange program
5 full year Exchange students
In addition to the Orientation Programs in 2012 we will be looking for selected Peer Mentors to take on leadership roles throughout the year.

Selection Criteria & How to Apply
Selection will be based on academic merit and submission of the tasks below:
Task 1: Tell us in 500 words or less why you think you would make a good Peer Mentor. What skills or attributes would you be able to offer the Program, your fellow Mentors and most importantly, the new international students you will be assisting in their transition to life in Adelaide?
Task 2: List 10 things that you believe new students need to know when they first arrive in Adelaide or at the University.
To apply you need to email your responses to task 1, and task 2 above to Ben Hooper in the International Student Centre. Include your name and student number in the Subject Header as the example shows below.
