Study Abroad and Exchange Programs

The University of Adelaide's Study Abroad and Exchange programs allow students who are already enrolled at universities outside Australia to study in Adelaide for one or two semesters. The programs offer an exciting opportunity for students to combine a high quality academic and cultural experience while living in the city of Adelaide.

Restricted Areas of Study

Undergraduate restrictions

Courses in the following Faculties/Schools are NOT available to Study Abroad and Exchange students:

Faculty of Health Sciences
  • Courses that form part of Dentistry (course code DENT), Nursing (NURSING) and Oral Health (ORALHLTH) are not available;
  • Medicine degree programs (course codes MEDIC ST, GEN PRAC, MEDICINE, PAEDIAT, PATHOL, PSYCHIAT, SURGERY) are not available.
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Languages
  • Available: French, German, Spanish (pre-approval required), Latin, Ancient Greek, Chinese and Japanese are available to all Study Abroad and Exchange students
  • Not Available: Italian, Modern Greek, Portuguese and Indonesian language and culture courses are not available to Study Abroad and Exchange students.
School of Music
  • There are significant restrictions on entry to music performance courses and limited availability of courses. If you are a music student and considering taking performance-based courses, please contact Study Abroad and Student Exchange as soon as possible. Please note that an audition will be required.
Faculty of Sciences
  • Courses with the BIOTECH course code are not available.
  • Courses with a course code ending in RG (for example, FOOD SC 2501RG) are not available.
  • Science courses that have the name of the specialisation (in brackets) after the course name are not available. For example, BIOCHEM 3003 Genes and Proteins III (Molecular Biology). Equivalents to these courses are often available (for example BIOCHEM 3000 Molecular and Structural Biology III is the equivalent for the course named above). Please contact Study Abroad and Student Exchange for further clarification if required.
  • There are significant restrictions on courses offered in the areas of Oenology and Viticulture. Please contact Study Abroad and Student Exchange if you are required to take courses in these areas.
Faculty of the Professions
  • Courses in Design Studies (DESST and Architecture/Landscape Architecture (ARCH/LARCH) require pre-approval. Please contact Study Abroad and Exchange if you wish to take courses in these areas.
External Courses
  • External Courses are not available. Study Abroad and Exchange students may not enrol in any courses offered externally. These courses are identified by the suffix <EX in the course code (e.g. - WINEMKTG 1013EX)

Postgraduate restrictions

Students who wish to study at postgraduate level (coursework or research) must have completed at least 3-4 years of their university degree. Approval to take postgraduate level study (coursework or research) is considered on a case-by-case basis by the relevant academic area and admission to postgraduate study is restricted. Please contact Study Abroad and Exchange as soon as possible if you are considering undertaking any postgraduate study (coursework or research), as you will need to obtain approval.
