AusAID Sponsored Students

AusAID Scholarships

The University of Adelaide is one of the institutions managing Australian Government funded AusAID scholarships. AusAID scholarships are managed through the AusAID Student Contact Officer (also the International Sponsored Student Advisor) at the International Student Centre (ISC), in accordance with the AusAID contract for provision of services.

Enquiries

If you have nominated the University as your preferred institution and have any questions regarding your application for admission and/or the AusAID scholarship, you may contact the AusAID Student Contact Officer Niranjala Seimon

Pre-departure Information

If you have accepted your offer of admission to study as an AusAID funded student, you will receive pre-departure information from both the AusAID Post in your home country and the University.  The University of Adelaide’s Pre departure Information Kit is available here.

Please note that students are strongly discouraged from bringing family with them when they first arrive in Australia.

Travel and Temporary Accommodation

The AusAID Post (AusAID Office in your country) will arrange and pay for AusAID students to travel to Australia.  Although the Post will notify the University of your travel details, you must also complete the International Student Arrival Form and submit it directly to the University.

Further information is also available regarding temporary accommodation and the University’s Meet & Greet Service.

Orientation Program

The ISC provides extensive orientation support and pastoral care to AusAID Scholars.  The Introductory Academic Program (IAP) commences with an Orientation Program each semester.

The Introductory Academic Program and Orientation Program commence on 11th January for AusAID students commencing their academic programs in Semester 1, 2012 (unless undertaking a pre course English program).

The recommended arrival date is 9th January.

On arrival in Adelaide, you must attend all orientation activities during which time you will be provided with your Establishment Allowance, your University email access and your Student ID card.

Pre departure information will be emailed to you individually, as the University receives full confirmation from AusAID of your scholarship being awarded.

Academic Progress Monitoring and Support

The University is responsible for careful management of the AusAID scholarships in accordance with the contract with AusAID.

The AusAID Student Contact Officer monitors the progress of all enrolled AusAID students to ensure they are on schedule to complete their course within the duration of their scholarships.  We aim to intervene early and support students requiring additional help to meet satisfactory progression requirements.

All AusAID students in coursework programs are expected to complete and submit the Notice of Assessment Form at the beginning of each semester.  The University will maintain up-to-date reports on Student progress to AusAID as part of the contractual obligations to the sponsor.

Supplementary Academic Support

If you require additional academic support over what is already available on campus, the AusAID Student Contact Officer can facilitate Supplementary Academic Support.  This must be recommended by the lecturer in charge.  Please contact the AusAID Student Contact Officer if you wish to seek this assistance.

Study Enrichment Allowance (SEA)

The SEA is available to Australian Leadership Award (ALA) students onlys.

It is financial assistance to enhance your formal studies.  The ALA Scholarships Handbook provides  information on eligible activities.

Funding is limited to A$2000 per annum per Scholar and will accumulate over the duration of your Scholarship (at the commencement of the Scholarship and at each 12-month milestone thereafter).  You may not apply for funds in advance from future years.

The SEA is administered by the University.  You may apply for these funds through the SCO.

Cross Institutional Study at Another Institution

AusAID students from the University of Adelaide enrolling in Cross Institutional study at another institution must complete the following steps.

Award Management

The University is committed to helping students complete the academic programs for which they were awarded the scholarship within the original duration of the award.

If there are any factors impacting on you completing the program for which you were awarded the AusAID scholarship, you must inform the Student Contact Officer  without delay.  Please also refer to the AusAID Student Charter for further details.

Fieldwork

Students enrolled in a Masters by Research or a Doctorate program may be permitted to undertake fieldwork in their home country or within Australia.  The need for fieldwork must be identified in the offer of admission and incorporated in the original funding request to AusAID.  Only one period of fieldwork will be funded during the course of the scholarship for eligible research students.

The scholarship entitlement for fieldwork will be for a return economy class airfare to their country of citizenship or within Australia.  All associated fieldtrip costs are to be covered by the university or the student.

If your AusAID Contract includes an entitlement for fieldwork please complete Fieldwork Application form and submit it to the SCO when you are ready to progress travel arrangements.

Completion of Studies and Return Home

The University provides AusAID students with a return home briefing and a completion ceremony towards the completion of their academic program.

On completion, you and any accompanying family members are required to return to your home country in accordance with your scholarship requirements.

The completion ceremony for students in graduating at the end of each semester will be announce in mid semester.  Graduating students will receive an email from the SCO with relevant details.
