Students studying research degrees need to check with their supervisor to find out which campus they will be based on.

Some students will study on multiple campuses, depending partially on what courses they enrol in or the set structure of their degree. In some programs, students will study at the North Terrace campus for their first year and then move to Waite for the subsequent years of their study.

If Waite or Roseworthy is the only campus at which you will be studying, decisions about living and transport will be easier but if you are studying at several campuses, then you will need to think carefully about the best place to live.

How will I know which Campuses I will be On?

If you will be studying a coursework degree you can work out what campuses you will be on by checking out the Program Finder for your program.  This lists each of the courses in which you will need to enrol in any given semester and year.  Each course has a code consisting of 4 numbers.  Codes which have only four numbers and no letters mean that this course will be taught on the main campus on North Terrace in the city.  Interpretation of the other codes is as follows:

If the code has the letters WT after it, then this course will be taught at the Waite campus. 

If it has the letters RW after it, then it will be taught at the Roseworthy campus. 

If it has the letters NW after it, it will be taught at the National Wine Centre in the city. 

If it has the letters RG after it, the course will be taught at the Regency College (Bachelor of Food & Nutrition students only). 

Note: If a course code has the letters EX after it, the course is an external course which means that it is not taught face-to-face.  Students are given the course material either in hard copy and/or online and complete the assessment requirements themselves at home.  External courses are not recommended for international students as most students learn more effectively if they attend regular classes and have the opportunity to interact with their lecturers and other students.  This is more likely to be the case for international students who are studying in an unfamiliar environment.

The first number of each course code indicates which year of the program it belongs to. 

For example course code BIOLOGY 1101 is a first year course and it is taught at the North Terrace campus (main campus). 

Course code AGRIC 2500WT is a second year course that is taught at Waite. 

Course code FOOD SCI 3500RG is a third year course taught at Regency College.

Course codes that start with 7 are postgraduate courses (only available for students enrolled in postgraduate degrees)

If you are going to be studying at the Waite campus, you might like to consider living in a nearby suburb so that you can walk or cycle to the campus. The Waite campus is in an area with many beautiful streets and houses and is not far from the city and public transport routes. As you can see from a street map, nearby suburbs include: Myrtlebank, Urrbrae, Netherby, Highgate, Fullarton, Mitcham, Millswood, Kingswood, Glenunga, and Malvern.

There are a number of student hostels/share houses within a few kilometres of the Waite campus as listed below.  Please note that these are privately owned businesses and thus their listing here does not indicate official endorsement by the University.  Also prices listed below may have changed since this listing so please check latest costs and other information directly with the accommodation provider.

If you are interested in renting a house or apartment (unit), have a look at the website: <realestate.com.au>  Search this website by entering the names of suburbs around the campus on which you will be studying.  This will give you a sense of prices and the standard of accommodation available in the rental market.  Be aware that most rental accommdation in Australia comes unfurnished!  This means that you will need to supply all your furniture including a refrigerator and a washing machine.    Please also be aware that most agents or landlords won't rent a place to you unless you are here in Adelaide and have looked at the property.  It is risky to sign a contract for a property you have never seen so we strongly advise you to wait until you get to Adelaide before committing yourself to renting a property in the private rental market.

Many Waite students choose to live in or near the city as Waite is only a bus ride away.  There are a number of different bus routes to Waite. 

The 170 bus travels to Waite from the city and terminates on the campus so this is a good choice for many students.  Here is a link to the route map and timetable for the 170 bus route:

 Another possible bus route is the 171 which travels close to the campus.  There is a ten minute walk through the campus after you get off the bus but it is along a beautiful road with gum trees and agricultural land.   Here is a link to the route map and timetable for the 171 bus route:

The nearest bus stop to the campus on the 171 route is bus stop number 12 on Fullarton Road (at the corner of Cross and Fullarton Road).  After alighting from the bus, walk across Cross Rd and enter the campus from Fullarton Rd along Walter Young Ave.  This is a beautiful scenic walk through the campus.

Although it does not go into the city, the Suburban Connector bus route (no. 300) stops very close to the Waite campus so another option is for students to live along this bus route.  The bus stop closes to Waite is No. 163 on Waite Road.  Here is a link to the bus route and timetable:

The 100 bus route also travels close to the campus and if you travel to campus on this route, you should get off the bus at bus stop no 163 (Waite Road).  Like bus route 300, the 100 bus route does not travel to and from the city.

There are other bus routes which travel close to the Waite campus, such as the 861 which travels from the city to Glen Osmond.  The nearest bus stop to Waite on this route is 13 which is at the junction of Cross Rd, Glen Osmond Rd, and Portrush Rd. The campus is about 10 minutes walk away from this stop along Cross Rd.

Note the the fare for the shuttle bus is $2.00 each way which is more expensive than catching a public bus.

 The Roseworthy Campus is located on a 1600-hectare property in a rural area 50 km north of Adelaide, and includes a working farm. The campus is 12 kilometres from Gawler, the nearest town.  If you are going to be studying at the Roseworthy campus, you will need to make a decision about whether you will live on the campus or in a suburb of Adelaide. Factors to take into account include:

• whether or not you will have a car;
• whether family members will be living with you;
• whether Roseworthy is the only campus on which you will be studying;
• how may days you will be studying at Roseworthy each week.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science (Animal Science) and the Bachelor of Science (Pre-Vetinerary) will study most of their courses on the main campus in the city for the first year of their program.  They will be required to attend classes at Roseworthy one day per week (currently, this is Thursdays).  Students catch the University shuttle bus which eaves the main campus at 7.25 am and arrives at Roseworthy at 8.30am. It brings students back to the city in the afternoon, leaving Roseworthy at 4.05 pm.  Classes are scheduled to fit in with the bus timetable.

Once students are in the second and subsequent years of their program, they will study predominantly or entirely at the Roseworthy campus and this is when decisions will need to be made about whether to live on campus or off campus in a shared house.

College places are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students of Roseworthy campus.  Students are allocated a single room in a college hall or five bedroom house with shared bathroom, kitchen facilities and student common rooms. Residents pay an accommodation fee of $6,240 (2011) per year, which entitles them to an accommodation place in college over a 39 week academic term. The fee includes five evening meals (weekdays only) and access to all campus facilities including the swimming pool, oval, tennis court, computer rooms and chapel. A wireless internet connection is available in your bedroom as an optional extra, as is membership of the gym.

The College has a live on campus Head of College and 24 hour security as well as a senior resident program to provide pastoral care support to residents.

On and off campus accommodation options are also available, subject to availability, for postgraduate students with families and visiting academics.

When you are choosing somewhere to live, it is important to think about how you will make your way to the campus.   The University operates a shuttle bus service to Roseworthy that leaves the main campus in the city at 7.25am, 12.00pm and 6.00pm each weekday.  The journey takes about one hour.  The bus travels from Roseworthy leaving at 8.35am and 4.05pm each week day.  Here is a link to the shuttle bus timetable:

If you live on the shuttle bus route, you can make an arrangement to be picked up by the driver on the way.   Roseworthy students who wish to live off campus, might like to consider finding accommodation along the shuttle bus route.

Another option is to catch a train to Gawler and a connecting bus from Gawler Railway station to the Roseworthy campus.  Here is a link to the train timetable:

Weekend Service: Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays
If students who live on the campus do not have their own car and during weekends and public holidays are unable to find  transport between Roseworthy and Gawler; the University will allow students to use a taxi, free of charge.   Students' names will be placed on the ‘Eligible User' list that is given to campus Security staff. Students wishing to use the taxi service need to contact the Security office  and ask them to book the taxi for the time they require.  A return trip can be booked at the same time if desired.

(Bachelor Food & Nutrition Science students only)

Students studying the Bachelor of Food Nutrition and Science will study at the North Terrace campus, the Waite campus, and Regency College.  This can seem daunting at first but students soon get used to studying at different campuses.  They are generally not required to move between campuses on the same day and instead usually spend the day at one campus only. 

Accommodation in the city is a good option because Waite is one bus ride away to the south east of the city, and Regency College is one bus ride to the north of the city.  Students who live in the city can catch route no. 231 to Regency College.  Here is a link to the route map and timetable:

Another good option is to find accommodation within walking distance of the Circle Line bus route (Route 100).  Both Waite and Regency College are on this bus route.  Thus students could live out of the city centre but still only be one bus ride away from each of their campuses.  Here is a link to the route map and timetable of the Circle Line:

A popular place to live is Norwood and surrounding suburbs and this can be convenient for students who need to travel to Regency and Waite.  Norwood is close to the city but the eastern end of Norwood is close to the Circle Line bus route as well.

Jane Copeland is an International Student Advisor with special responsibility for providing support to Waite, Roseworthy and Regency College students.  Jane aims to meet each student soon after they arrive to assist them with settling in.  She is then available to provide support and information to students throughout their time at the University.  Jane works from the North Terrace campus but travels to Waite once per fortnight to host a gathering for students.    Students come to these gatherings to meet other students, share some food and drink, perhaps play a game of table tennis or eat their lunch.   There are about 350 international students studying at Waite.  On the alternative weeks, she visits Waite for two hours during a lunch period and is available for consultations with students. 

There are about 25 international students currently studying at the Roseworthy campus.  Sally Polkinghorne is a student advisor based on the Roseworthy campus and she and Jane host a gathering for Roseworthy students once per month.

Students studying at Regency College also study at Waite and so have the opportunity to attend the student gatherings at Waite.  In addition, they have available to them the support facilities based at  Regency College.  Information about these facilities is given to students on arrival.

All Waite and Roseworthy students are placed on an email list and will be given information about specific opportunities and events on their campus.
