"As a Muslim who had spent time in other western cities that weren't particularly multicultural, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a thriving Islamic community when I arrived in Adelaide. There are several mosques dotted around the city and suburbs, and one is only a five-minute walk from where I live. "The University has a prayer room in the Union Building, which is a great place to pray, relax and chat with friends from all over the world. A lot of the cafes and restaurants serve halal food and it's easy to find the supplies I need to cook at home. Adelaide is safer than most cities, and has a beautiful landscape with lots of parks. It's also close to the beach, where I sometimes go crabbing with friends. I have found the people here very friendly and open, and there's a sense of respect and understanding between cultures. It makes it easy to cooperate with each other." |
